From the start

“The idea for Salt and Fiber came to me while kitesurfing in Lomma. I work as a kitesurfing instructor during the summer, which means I spend a lot of time by the beach and in the water. If you’ve ever been to a beach in Skåne, you’ll know the shoreline is often covered in washed-up seagrass. As a designer and artist, I started to wonder what happens to all that material and whether it could be used in some way.

At first, I imagined it in an art context, but once I learnt more about its properties, I quickly saw the potential of its fibres for textiles and paper. After many conversations, meetings and pitches, I’m thrilled to now be working on our first prototypes. It has already been quite a journey, and this is just the beginning.”

We’re thrilled to share that our first prototypes are up and running, and we’re looking ahead to launching our first pilot project in our own lab. We’re exploring opportunities to make this next step happen. An exciting move that would bring our vision closer to reality, turning locally sourced seagrass into sustainable fibers.
